Previous Postgraduates
The opportunities for postgraduate supervision in Nottingham and York are a bit limited. Nevertheless, I have been successful in those I have supervised. Each passed their PhD with no corrections, two are in permanent jobs in Philosophy.
Nicholas Shackel, Thesis Title: On the Obligation to be Rational, obtained 17/5/04 in University of Nottingham. He is now Reader in Philosophy at the University of Cardiff.
Vladislav Vojtovic, Thesis Title ‘A Critical Approach to Representationalism from a large Sellarsian Perspective’ obtained on 27.1.11 in University of York. He decided not to pursue an academic career (http://etheses.whiterose.ac.uk/1252/1/THESISfinalver.pdf).
Ema Sullivan-Bissett, Thesis Title 'Belief, Truth and Biological Function’ http://etheses.whiterose.ac.uk/6175/ awarded June 2014 in University of York. She obtained a three year post-doc in a project headed by Lisa Bortolotti entitled PERFECT (Pragmatic and Epistemic Role of Factually Eroneous Cognitions and Thoughts) funded by the ERC before securing a permanent Lectureship in Philosophy at the University of Birmingham. Current Postgraduates
I currently have five PhD students, for three of whom I am primary (or co-primary) supervisor. They are working on Delusion, Mental Causation and Physicalism, and Responsibility and Autonomous Systems respectively.
